I recorded this album during the first pandemic lock down. But it wasn't the impetus for the music. Maybe there's a subconscious element to it but I wanted to make a ying to the first abstract blues album's yang. Where vol. 1 was all electric, I wanted vol. 2 to be all acoustic. Where vol. 1 was abrasive and extrospective, i wanted vol. 2 to be quiet and introspective. I was intrigued with the Zen like idea of playing without thinking about playing. Which is quite ironic. I know. The notion of simply playing and making music in its purest form really appealed to me as sometimes playing improvised music or avant-garde music can be quite the cerebral endeavour. Also, playing in this way naturally evokes the blues in me (being a guitarist first) and I thought it would be interesting to play the blues but not really play the blues. There I go again thinking about not thinking about playing. This is a major aspect of Zen and once I started playing, turning off the brain became easier.
